HOLBROOK — Director Steve Hooke is pleased to announce that the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center has officially begun to receive all 911 calls for the Town of Abington and has assumed dispatch responsibility of the Abington Police Department.
The successful cutover of the Abington Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) took place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3. As a result, HRECC will handle all 911 calls in Abington, including wireless, landline and Text to 911 services. This is in addition to handling dispatch for the Abington Fire Department, which HRECC has done for several years.
The announcement of Abington Police and PSAP joining HRECC was made in March of last year, and since then HRECC has worked with the town and the Massachusetts State 911 Department to ensure a successful transition.
With the addition of Abington Police, HRECC now serves a total of nine departments across Norfolk and Plymouth counties, including Abington Fire, Holbrook Police and Fire, Rockland Police and Fire, Sharon Fire, Canton Fire and Whitman Fire. This also includes the Fire District 4 Control Point.

The Abington Police Department is the first new department to join the HRECC since the opening of its new 5,967 square-foot headquarters, which officially opened in January 2021. The facility, located at 300 South Franklin St. behind the Holbrook Public Safety complex, was built with the goal of expanding the HRECC’s staff and available resources.
