HOLBROOK — Director Steve Hooke would like to acknowledge the many telecommunicators at the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center who worked to respond to the serious Nor’easter that hit the area last week.

HRECC utilized additional staffing beginning Tuesday, Oct. 26 through Wednesday, Oct. 27. At times, there were as many as 10 telecommunicators in the center fielding calls and dispatching responses.

For the duration of the storm, HRECC processed 736 calls for service from police, fire and EMS. The center also processed 568 911 calls from partner communities. This is in addition to the numerous calls that came in through the center’s business lines.

Telecommunicators took many calls throughout the storm for partner towns for issues ranging from downed trees and wires, power outages, fire alarms, flooded basements, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies and more. The team also assisted agencies throughout Norfolk County in securing mutual aid.

There were also regular field responses to HRECC radio sites to make sure all equipment was functioning appropriately throughout.

“Our team did an exceptional job ensuring all calls for assistance were responded to promptly and dispatched appropriately,” Director Hooke said. “It was highly advantageous for us to be able to handle this event in our new facility and with up-to-date technology. It was a great test of our systems internally and I can’t express enough what a phenomenal job the team did. We also thank our partner agencies for the collaborative effort to get everyone help expeditiously during the entire storm and its aftermath.”
