HOLBROOK — Director Steve Hooke is pleased to share that the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center was recently awarded a grant to purchase equipment and technology components for the HRECC’s soon-to-be-completed communications center.

The grant, officially named the “FY21 State 911 Department Regional Public Safety Answering Point and Regional Secondary Public Safety Answering Point and Regional Emergency Communications Center Development Grant,” totals just under $2.1 million.

A portion of the grant, which was awarded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Massachusetts State 911 Department, has been designated to be utilized for equipment costs that will allow the HRECC to complete the purchase and installation of all technological components to be used for its new center.

The center is scheduled to be completed this summer, and the technology components should be installed and operational by the end of November.

Some of the technological components to be purchased through the grant include:

  • Radio console positions
  • Fire alarm receiving equipment
  • Telephone systems
  • Video security and access control
  • Computer servers and other IT equipment
  • PC’s, monitors and printers
  • Video monitor wall
  • Dispatch chairs

Another component of the grant is that the Town of Rockland’s fiscal year 2021 assessment fee (the annual cost to receive dispatch services from the HRECC) will be paid for out of the grant.

All of the towns that partner with the HRECC — including Abington, Canton, Holbrook, Rockland, Sharon and Whitman — will also be receiving new station alerting and scrolling sign boards displaying calls for service.

“We would like to thank the Towns we partner with and the State 911 Department for their continued support,” Director Hooke said. “We would especially like to thank our team of Telecommunicators, who have been working particularly hard lately due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are more than deserving of this new space and the state-of-the-art technology that will assist them in doing their job even more effectively. We all know that in this line of work, seconds matter and there is no room for error.”
